Why is there muscle cramps??

A muscle cramp is a painful contraction /tightness of muscles that lasts from seconds up to 20 minutes. cramps happens often when going to bed or just waking up.

  Possible causes of cramps are as follows:

  • exercise, overuse of muscles.
  • pregnancy may cause cramps due to lack of minerals such as calcium and magnesium
  • cold temperature
  • blood flow problems, kidney problems, thyroid disease.
  • standing on hard surface for too long time
  • not having enough potassium.
  • being dehydrated which means your body had to less water.

When you have  muscle cramps you can try the following:
  • try to do some stretching even in pain
  • warm shower or a heating pad to relax muscles
  • calf stretching exercise
how to prevent muscle cramp from happening:

  • always exercise, especially before you go to bed
  • be sure to have enough potassium
  • drink lots of water, your urine color should be below number 3 or less from the chart above
